Changing doors

Today I tackled yet another project from the never-ending list.  Maybe 4-5 years ago I found some french doors on kijiji at a town nearby.  They were actual nice old wood ones, so the drive there was worth getting 2 for $50.  When I arrived, he gave me all 3 for $50 - what'd'ya know!?

It meant that I had to find something to do with them though… and "lay them there" in the basement worked until this weekend.  Well, worked until I got my table saw actually!

Now that I had my table saw, I was able to take one of these french doors and cut it down to fit as the door for our Music Room!  I first measured the door that was there, and then headed downstairs to get cutting.

I had to cut some inches off the length (thank goodness for it being a solid wood door!) and then we took it upstairs to test it out.  Perfect, length is good… width was not.  Back downstairs.  We took a bit off the width too, and then I spent a very careful hour chiseling out the spot for the hinges.  Hinges can be a nightmare, but thankfully, I somehow didn't screw up the alignment this time either.  But you know what?  I put them a bit too low (bah!) so we took the door back down and took 1/8" off of the top.  One last bit of shaving (GW had to take a corner down a little bit) and it closes!  No handle or paint done yet, but it's up there   :-)
Taaaa Daaaa!!!!

Don't worry, I'm not getting rid of the door with the gorgeous trim piece!  I'm going to try to put it onto the entrance to the guest room, as the door that's there now doesn't have any trim.  The linen closet has it, the bathroom has it… but not the guest room.  Add it to the list?
